Ancient Kentish custom returns to Chatham!
Fort Amherst will be reviving the ancient Kentish custom of Wassailing - a ceremony dating back to Saxon times performed to awaken fruit trees and bee hives and to drive away evil spirits... and you're invited!
The family orientated event will take place within our newly planted community orchard. It will include a torchlight possession, a ceremonial bonfire and the firing of muskets and a cannon to scare off the bad sprits. The evening includes Morris dancing and singing of traditional Wassailing songs, and there will be folk music in the tunnels along with storytelling for both children and adults.
A bar and BBQ will be available. Tickets are £5 for adults (book below) and £3 for children (book from the events calendar).
Please note: There will be no onsite parking available. Adult tickets and children's tickets are priced differently, but are for the SAME event.
